Purpose of CYDEF

Today, the world finds itself in an unprecedented state of uncertainty and turmoil. The conflict in Ukraine has spread to Gaza last year, and there are growing concerns that the next crisis may unfold in Taiwan. The international order, shaped by two world wars and the Cold War, is beginning to show signs of significant strain.

In cyberspace, the situation is becoming increasingly severe. Advanced technologies such as generative AI and quantum computing are rapidly evolving, introducing new threats that fundamentally challenge the foundations of our society. These threats extend beyond governments and nations, deeply affecting the business world, making them a critical concern for business leaders and technologists alike. In the realm of cognitive warfare, activities aimed at influencing perceptions and destabilizing the very fabric of society are expanding. Moreover, the importance of intelligence is growing, as the ability to gather and analyze information has become crucial not only for national and corporate security but also for economic activities.

CYDEF2024, under the theme “Threats and Co-Creation” aims to provide a platform where participants from both the public and private sectors can gather to discuss and take action against these complex contemporary threats. Experts with solid theoretical foundations and frontline experiences in intelligence, cybersecurity, and national security from free nations such as the United States, Europe, and ASEAN countries will gather to engage in in-depth discussions on the current state of modern conflicts, cyber warfare, and critical infrastructure protection.

CYDEF offers a valuable opportunity to gain insights, which participants are able to learn, ask questions, and engage in discussions, in Japan. It will share practical knowledge based on the latest strategies and technologies. Especially for business leaders, addressing these threats is now a crucial issue directly tied to future growth and risk management. The time has come to recognize and confront these challenges with a heightened sense of urgency.

About CYDEF2024

About CYDEF

This conference brings together experts in the field of cyber defense from around the world, to disseminate information, share awareness and establish collaboration. It aims to deepen and broaden understanding of these objectives through discussions.

Since its inaugural meeting in 2018, CYDEF has consistently grown, attracting approximately 300 speakers and 5,500 audience members over the past six years.

CYDEF 2024, now in its seventh year, will center around sessions organized by associated research institutes primarily from NATO countries, as in the previous year, while also expanding its framework to include the Indo-Pacific nations.

Moving forward, we aim to position CYDEF as a key hub for collaboration between industry, government and academia, both domestically and internationally.

Conference Features

Invitation of experts from all over the world

As in previous years, we will invite distinguished figures in the field of cyber defense innovation, including government ministers, cyber ambassadors, cyber commanders, university researchers and corporate executives from various countries.

Facilitating understanding through simultaneous Japanese-English interpretation

To assist those who are not proficient in English, simultaneous Japanese-English interpretation is provided, enabling participants to follow the proceedings by listening to expert discussions that have been appropriately translated, including those on specialized fields.

CYDEF2024 Symbol Mark

Regarding the Design of the Conference Symbol Mark:

In bird symbolism, the Red-flanked Bluetail represents “strong will”. The image of the birds flying together toward the future represents co-creation, while the lightning signifies threats. The inclusion of lightning is inspired by the saying that a year with many strikes brings a bountiful harvest, reflecting the idea of overcoming challenges to achieve great outcomes.
